1. Stay grateful

Remaining grateful doesn’t mean you deny your pain—it’s simply a powerful way to shift your focus and maintain a positive attitude. No matter how hard life feels right now, there’s always something to be grateful for.

It might be the roof over your head, the stunning sunrise you recently saw, a quiet moment with your morning coffee, or the warm meal you enjoyed at lunch. Big or small, these blessings soften your heart and bring you closer to the Lord.

Even in tough seasons, there’s something to gain. Maybe it’s growth, strength, or a new perspective. The best part? These lessons help shape the best version of yourself, so remain focused and don’t get caught up in negative emotions. Feel them, and let them pass.

Trust God that everything is happening for you, not to you. Start a gratitude journal and write down three things each day. You’ll create space for peace, joy, and unshakable trust to grow.

2. Read the Scripture

The Bible has plenty of stories about people who experienced unfair circumstances; think of David, Joseph, Job, and Ruth. But the Lord’s faithfulness shines through every time. Let their stories remind you that everything will pass and better things are coming your way.

Reading the Scripture has the power to restore hope, calm your anxiety, and remind you that you’re not alone in the struggle. There’s a reason why God is testing you, and it is only for your highest good. Be patient! You’ve got this!

3. Tell the Lord how you feel

One of the easiest ways to trust God? Be honest with him and tell him exactly how you feel. You don’t have to pretend or put on a brave face. He already knows your heart, and he wouldn’t have allowed this challenge in your life if he didn’t believe you could overcome it.

Opening up and owning your emotions will only deepen the sacred relationship you share. So go ahead—tell him how lost you feel, how much it hurts, or how unfair life seems right now. He understands. And in return, he’ll send comfort, guidance, or even little synchronicities to remind you: this pain won’t last forever.

4. Let go of the need to understand

If you trust God, you don’t need to know exactly what his plans are. I get it—not knowing “why” and living without clarity can be one of the hardest parts right now. But remain faithful and accept that it’s okay not to know.

You don’t have to understand everything to be confident that you’re on the right path. The Lord’s ways are higher than ours, and faith isn’t always built on clear answers. Rest in the truth that he’s taking care of you and sees the whole picture. Stay confident, and in time, you’ll discover the answers you’ve been looking for.

5. Remember God’s faithfulness in the past

Things might not be ideal right now, but think back to the moments in your life when everything worked out against the odds. The Lord was there with you, whether it was a relationship, healing for a traumatic experience, a job, or unexpected peace.

Take a moment to reflect on past blessings and even write them down if it helps you feel more connected to the divinity. When life feels unfair, remember that it’s always important to trust God. You have proof that he supported you many times, and he will keep doing so, even if it’s not when you want.

6. Lean into prayer

I told you at the beginning of this story that I went through some difficult situations in my life. There was a time when my husband and I were really tight with money—our only concern was having enough to cover the bills, groceries, utilities, and the subscriptions we needed for work.

At first, I thought it would only last two or three months. But when it stretched into over a year, I grew frustrated with the Lord and wondered if he had forgotten about me. I went to my local church, and the priest gently encouraged me to pray—even if I didn’t feel like it.

That night, I prayed like never before. I told God everything I was holding inside. I asked him for guidance, patience, and just enough resources to make it through the month. I told him I trusted that things would get better, but I just needed a sign that it would pass.

I hadn’t realized how much I needed that prayer until I felt the emotional weight lift afterward. Four months later, I received a raise, and my husband landed three big clients. That season taught me something priceless: consistent prayer builds trust, even when things don’t change right away.

Because here’s the truth: sometimes, the biggest miracle isn’t a transformed situation. It’s a transformed heart. And prayer is often where that beautiful transformation begins.

7. Surround yourself with faith-filled people

It’s easier to trust God when everyone around you is faithful. Here’s the thing: during tough times, the company you keep really matters! Surround yourself with friends who lift you up, pray with you, and remind you of God’s wonderful promises.

They can boost your spirits and help you see things more clearly. Instead of isolating yourself (which I completely understand if that’s what you feel like doing), lean into your church community, small group, or any faith-based support you have. When your faith feels a bit shaky, remember that their strength can help carry you through. God often works through the people around us, so let him guide you!

Takeaway

When you trust God, your life won’t be perfect, but it will feel better and lighter! Have faith that he’s always there for you, even when you don’t see it. Staying rooted in your faith, being honest about how you feel, and looking for glimpses of grace amid the struggle are powerful ways to start noticing how the Lord is working—even behind the scenes. Keep showing up, stay grateful, and let your trust grow one step at a time!
